About fadejunkie

fadejunkie is an independent project — built by someone who lives barber culture, for the people who live it too. Here's what that means, what studying here actually costs, and why we pulled and published a snapshot of TDLR's own Texas barber-school license data.

Who's behind it

fadejunkie isn't a startup that discovered barbering, and it isn't a cosmetology platform wearing a barber skin. It's one person building tools for a culture they're already part of. No team, no investors, no roadmap but the students'. No executive bios, no stock-photo "our story" timeline — just a study tool that gets built, fixed, and answered for by the same person, every time.

What fadejunkie actually is

Students create a free account to start studying — no subscription, ever — and get real practice access immediately: flashcards and a 20-question quiz per topic. A one-time $15 lifetime pass unlocks the full 300-question bank across every topic, longer quizzes, the complete 11-section practical exam guide, and progress tracking. No expiry, no recurring bill.

An account — free or paid — is required to use any of the real study tools. The only thing that works without signing in is a 3-question preview on the education hub.

Why we built the Texas barber school dataset

Building a study tool for barber students meant knowing which schools in Texas actually hold a TDLR barber license. TDLR publishes that as a public CSV export, no login required — so on July 29, 2026 we pulled it directly from TDLR's own production endpoint. No scraping tool, no third-party aggregator.

Four schools hold two campus licenses each, which is why those first two numbers don't match — not an error, just how TDLR's own records are structured. This is a snapshot of what TDLR had on file that day, not a live feed. For any single school's current status, TDLR's own license lookup is still the authoritative source.

That data now powers our TDLR-licensed barber schools directory — built for the same students the dataset is about.
